When Presbyterian Health Services, the largest healthcare provider in New Mexico, kicked off the design of their Santa Fe location, patient safety and satisfaction were the first priorities for the designers. With a mission of elevating care in the Santa Fe focused on improving quality care, enhancing patient experience and lowering the total cost of medical care.
“Santa Fe Medical Center Hospital, designed and constructed for Presbyterian Hospital in Santa Fe, NM was built to serve the rural portions of Northern New Mexico. Designing the facility to recognize the diverse cultural aspects of the state was a critical goal for our design team to meet,” said Barbara Audet, Senior Healthcare Interior Designer with Dekker/Perich/Sabatini.
With hiking trails, a healing pathway, and community teaching garden the medical center is much more than a traditional hospital. The center is designed to be a beautiful and inviting space for community members to pursue their own health care goals.
While enabling the hospital to meet their community goals was critical, safety and infection control were paramount. The designers needed to select a material that would enable easy disinfection with non-porous and seamless properties.
“Using best practice methods for the selection of materials that will be durable, easily maintained, and support the Infection Control strategies set by the owner are critical to providing a facility that will stand the test of time,” said Audet.
“By specifying Corian® Solid Surface for the countertops, shower surrounds, head wall material, and high touch surfaces, the design team created a safe environment for patients and staff. The smooth, seamless finish of Corian® Solid Surface integrate flawlessly with the southwest architectural design of the hospital,” added Audet.
