Cameron Chisholm Nicol were approached by Not-For-Profit organization, Connect Groups, to design a community link booth to be serviced by their volunteers at Fiona Stanley Hospital. The objective for the Community Link Booth is to connect patients and their care givers to community support services, so it was important that the booth promoted an informal and friendly assistance model.
Cameron Chisholm Nicol sought inspiration from the geometry and color tones of the Banksia Melaleuca pine cones endemic to the area. The resultant inverted S-shaped seating bench provides opportunities for multiple conversations between volunteers and the public, whilst a self-help area with iPad devices, an integrated video screen and a stand-up counter with integrated secure storage below, completes the booth’s various functions.
“The location of the booth is in a high traffic concourse to the entry of the Hospital, we needed a solid and powerful performing material like Corian® Solid Surface, which could withstand its environment. Drawing inspiration from the geometry and color tones of the Banksia Melaleuca pine cones we needed a versatile material which could be shaped effortlessly.

The scale of the corporate branding to the TV screen has tested various times. The routering machine determined the correct scales, we were fortunate to explore various scales in order to achieve the desired impact.
