Health care professionals training area at the University of Barcelona (UB) Health Science Campus in Bellvitge enables study and research to be carried out with comfort thanks to the latticeworks conceived by the prestigious architecture company Pinearq. The latticeworks protect the spaces from the Mediterranean sun while allowing the light to pass through the facade’s design and the techno-surface Corian®.
For the architecture company Pinearq, managed by Albert de Pineda, the teaching block and the laboratories at the University of Barcelona (UB) Health Science Campus in Bellvitge (Hospitalet de Llobregat) constitute the first time they have used Corian® in a facade. Owing to their previous experience in different jobs for the health care sector, they were convinced that it was the ideal option as the material has showed long term results with efficiency, hygiene and ease of maintenance.
In this occasion, the techno-surface has been installed in several facades with outstanding performances, specially the facades facing south that receive a lot of sunlight. In those facades, Corian® protects from the intense Mediterranean sun during the summer time and the white colour helps keeping a high level of light during the winter time.
Albert de Pineda highlights, apart from these qualities, “the possibility to do latticework with Corian® with the desire design and pattern” and the speed of the assembly. The exterior slats, pre-manufactured in the workshop, could be placed vertically as well as horizontally, according to the requirements of each facade’s aspect and design. Vertically, with the advantage of protecting the warms west facing facades. Horizontally, because those are the structures in view from the outside.
