A striking, contemporary kitchen for a home-based business.

WorkPlace design studio, in London, England

The ability to combine living and working in a single, flowing space is a feature of the electronic age ... and one that Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway, founders of the Red or Dead design label, have incorporated into "WorkPlace." This complete refurbishment of their London base has become a beautiful reflection of the philosophy and aesthetics of "work smarter, not harder."

The kitchen is key.

The goal was to create a working environment with the highest design values and innovations that would make doing business from home easier, healthier and more comfortable. Within this new space, the kitchen was designed to make the working lunch or dinner meeting both enjoyable and efficient.

DuPont Corian® solid surfaces are featured dramatically in Gerardine's striking, contemporary design for the WorkPlace kitchen, using two recent additions to the extensive Colours of Corian® palette.

Durable, easy to clean, heat-resistant

Corian® also brings high-performance qualities, such as durability and ease of maintenance, to the space. The material was the ideal choice for the dining/meeting table, which features integral Tepan cooking plates by Miele. Corian® in Adobe has been used to create the top of this kidney-shaped table, which perfectly captures the concept of WorkPlace: to enjoy work, save time and be home sooner!

Gatherings take place around the table while quick, healthy and delicious meals are cooked on the stainless steel Tepans. Corian® is perfect for the table surface in many ways: It continues the curve and colour motif, the silky surface is warm to the touch, user-friendly and easy to clean... and there is no danger of burns or stains from the Tepan cooking.

Gerardine had considered using stainless steel, but felt it had become "overused." She chose Corian® because "it's so versatile and can be molded into experimental shapes."
